Frequently asked questions

The GED® test is a high school completion option for adults 18 and older. (If you are under 18, see question 3 below.)

There are 4 sections — Reasoning Through Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, and Math. Each is scored separately and can be taken separately. A passing score is 145 per section.

Register at GED.com — create a free account, pick a location and date, and pay by debit/credit card ($36 per section). RARAE provides preparation classes to help you get ready.

Our office does not keep copies of GED transcripts or credentials.

Request your scores from GED.com — click “Grads & Transcripts” and follow the instructions to order a copy.

You will need to follow one of the processes in the Virginia Superintendent’s Memo for High School Equivalency (HSE) testing to see whether you are eligible.

We hold registration sessions at the beginning of each semester (August and January). Complete the online interest form and we’ll contact you with a registration appointment when the period opens.

We run two semesters a year: September through mid-December, and February through mid-May.
